Grey Literature

SLAW is burning up the blogosphere with law librarians focusing on Grey Literature. The link above is to the 'finding grey literature' post.

What is that? As reported in D.J. Farace, Introduction, 22 Publishing Research Quarterly 3:

"Information produced on all levels of government, academics, business and industry in electronic and print formats not controlled by commercial publishing, i.e. where publishing is not the primary activity of the producing body."

Why should you pay attention to Grey Literature in your legal research? Here are some sources of Grey Literature that should convince you:
  1. The Alberta Law Reform Institute
  2. Alberta Law Society Libraries Research Guides
  3. WTO GATT documents collection
  4. Government of Alberta publications
  5. Government of Canada publications
In the Google age, there is every reason to search widely. Call the library INFO line if you want us to look for you (x.4636)

Cheers, Shaunna
